Birth Story: Hope Hannah

I had my last appointment with Jill on Thursday afternoon. I was 40+4. We tentatively scheduled an appointment for the following week, really hoping I wouldn’t make it to that appointment and have a baby by then. I had been having cramping for weeks, and the cramping continued that night. My husband kept the midwives up-to-date with length and duration of contractions. Things slowed down and I was able to sleep through the night. Friday morning, I was still having some contractions, so my husband decided to stay home from work. We called my mother-in-law to come pick up our toddler, and I chatted with her casually in the kitchen around 10am Friday. As soon as our toddler was out of the house, things picked up dramatically, and at 10:30 I contacted my doula, asking her to come for extra support. Not too long after, we contacted the midwives and said you better get over here. My husband was filling up the inflatable tub with air in our bedroom when the pushing contractions started. There was nothing I could do to stop the sensation of having to push. In between the contractions, he was still filling up the tub. I finally said, “it’s not gonna happen!! I need you right here next to me!!” Not a few minutes later, at 11:30am, Hope Hannah Vollo burst into the scene, about 30 seconds before the Binah Birth midwifery team (and my doula) came through the door. It was an incredibly empowering and beautiful experience. I was so thankful to have the midwives there with me to help manage the third stage of labor and stitch me up. It was a beautiful glorious Homebirth experience!
